While Monterrey is already well on pace for a place in the play-offs at the very least, Mazatlan finds itself toiling away in the bottom half of the table after winning just two of 10 league games this season.
Fernando Ortiz’s men are the only team in Mexico’s top flight still yet to taste defeat so far this season, with their last loss coming against Atletico San Luis in November during the Apertura quarter-finals.
Monterrey’s home form has been particularly fearsome of late, having gone more than 270 minutes without conceding so much as a goal at the Estadio BBVA.
That could prove problematic for Mazatlan considering its struggles away from home this season, especially after suffering a 1-0 defeat at Santos Laguna in its more recent road trip.
That being said, form has improved for Rescalvo & Co. considering each of their two wins so far this term have each come in their last five outings.
Mazatlan has also suffered just one defeat across that stretch, which includes an impressive 2-2 draw against another of Monterrey’s main rivals for top spot, Club América.
