The Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Tournament will head into the quarterfinals at the T-Mobile Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, with a matchup featuring No. 5 seeded BYU taking on the No. 4 seed in the Big 12 in Texas Tech. The Cougars finished the season 23-9 overall and 10-8 against conference teams, tied with No. 16 Kansas. They entered the tournament in the second round beating UCF 87-73 to advance to the quarterfinals. Fousseyni Traore led the team in scoring with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. He also had the team's only double-double. Dallin Hall led the starters with 13 points and four assists.

The Red Raiders finished the season with a 22-9 record and just entering back into the Top 25 rankings in the last edition. They also finished 11-7 in the Big 12 entering the tournament in the quarterfinal as the No. 4 seed behind just Houston, Iowa State, and Baylor.

They ended the season with a huge home win over former No. 11 Baylor 78-68 giving them momentum heading into this game. Pop Isaacs, who has led the team in scoring all season, led the team in that win with 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
