The stage is set for the NCAA Tournament Championship and on Sunday afternoon, second-seeded Northwestern will square off against top-seeded UNC as the teams battle for the national title. The Wildcats made it through to the championship game after defeating third-seeded Duke in a tight 2-1 victory in the semifinal round to bring their overall record to 21-1 this season. Ilse Tromp and Regan Cornelius scored the Wildcats' two goals while Annabel Skubisz made one crucial save in order for Northwestern to earn its third straight trip to the national championship. Last season, the team came up just shy of the title in a 2-1 loss to none other than UNC.

The Tar Heels will look to claim their 11th national title on Sunday and first-year coach Erin Matson's first national title in her role while making history. Matson is the youngest coach in NCAA field hockey history and while she won four national titles as the most decorated member of the Tar Heels' program, she will look to claim her first at the helm. UNC advanced to the title game after beating Virginia in a 2-0 victory on Friday. Ryleigh Heck scored the game-winning goal just seven minutes into the first quarter and Sietske Brüning added the insurance goal to send the team to its fifth title game in six years. Maddie Kahn made two saves in net to earn the team its fifth shutout of the year.
