UMass is trying to get back to the top of the Hockey East. The Minutemen won the conference tournament in 2021 and 2022 - their first two ever conference championships - but were knocked out by Boston College in the first round last year.
Providence also has two all-time Hockey East wins, but they date a little further back. The Friars won the inaugural Hockey East tournament in 1985, then captured another title in 1996. Their most recent trip to the conference championship game came in 2018. Last year they got close, but lost 2-1 in overtime in a semifinal matchup against eventual champion and top seed Boston University.
