With two weeks to go in the regular season, none of the eight teams in the league have clinched a playoff spot, nor have any been eliminated from playoff contention. In the first of two south division matchups of the week, the New Orleans Breakers (5-3) take on the Memphis Showboats (5-3). Both teams, along with the Houston Gamblers, are tied for second place in the south division looking up at the 6-2 Birmingham Stallions, with the top two teams in the division at the end of the regular season earning playoff spots. the Gamblers and Stallions will play each other on Sunday.

With a win in this one, Memphis can clinch the head-to-head tiebreaker over New Orleans for the season. The Showboats beat the Breakers 17-10 back in week five. The Memphis defense, which has allowed the fewest points of any south division team this season, forced three turnovers in that game.
This will be the second look that Showboats' defense gets at New Orleans quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson. The former Canadian Football League standout is the USFL's leading passer this year with 2,118 yardsm over 300 more than the next closest quarterback, Case Cookus of the Philadelphia Stars.
