The Michigan Panthers (3-5) have faded since a 2-0 start to the season but remain just a game out of first place in the USFL's North Division. On Saturday afternoon at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, the Panthers can clinch a playoff berth with a victory over the Pittsburgh Maulers (2-6) and a Philadelphia win over New Jersey on Sunday. The Maulers have dropped their last three games, with their last win coming in Week 5 over Michigan in which they held the Panthers to 152 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers. A win would keep Pittsburgh alive in the playoff race in the North.

Michigan's last chance on Sunday against New Orleans in Birmingham ended when Josh Love's pass with three seconds left was intercepted in a 24-20 loss to the Breakers. The Panthers fell behind 21-0 in the second quarter and were never able to dig all the way out of that hole. Love was 22-of-32 for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
The Maulers led 16-6 entering the fourth quarter before the Gamblers roared back for a 20-19 victory in Canton a week ago. Chris Blewitt kicked four field goals for Pittsburgh, but missed a go-ahead kick from 41 yards out with 1:55 left. Troy Williams was 20-of-26 for 214 yards and ran for the Maulers' only touchdown.
Pittsburgh comes in with the No. 1 defense in the USFL, allowing just 260.4 yards per game but the offense has scored one touchdown or fewer in six of their eight games and averages a league-worst 16.5 points per game. The Panther offense isn't much more effective at 277.6 yards a game.
