Second-seeded Warroad (24-5-0) and No. 3 seed St. Cloud Cathedral (24-4-1) skated to lopsided victories in Wednesday's quarterfinals and face off Friday in semifinal action at the Minnesota Class A tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. For the Warriors, a third consecutive trip to the championship game is at stake while the Crusaders look for their second championship game bid after winning the title in 2019. Warroad has finished runner-up each of the last two years, including a double-overtime loss in last year's championship game. The teams met earlier in the season, with the Warriors taking a 3-2 victory in overtime at back on Nov. 25.

Warroad was dominant in an 8-1 victory over New Ulm on Wednesday, finishing with more goals than the Eagles had shots (six). The Warriors broke the game open with five goals in the second period and it was 7-0 before New Ulm got on the board. Murray Marvin-Cordes finished with three goals and two assists while Dominic Anthony and Carson Pilgrim each lit the lamp twice.

Landon Swenson's goal midway through the second period gave St. Cloud Cathedral a 2-1 lead and it never looked back in a 5-1 win over Northfield on Wednesday. Joey Gillespie had a pair of goals while John Hirschfeld logged a goal and three assists. Nick Hansen turned aside 19 shots in the victory.

Pilgrim leads Warroad with 31 goals and 66 points, Marvin-Cordes has 27 goals and Taven James has 59 points. Ben Norris is 24-5-0 in net with an .895 save percentage and 2.12 goals-against average. Gillespie paces the Crusaders with 31 goals and Hirschfeld has a team-high 79 points, including 25 goals. Hansen is 17-0-1 with a .936 save percentage and 1.42 GAA.
