Israel held off a late rally to advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals against the United States in the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship.

The top-seeded United States men's national team takes the field Wednesday night in San Diego's Torero Stadium at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship. The U.S. went 4-0 in Pool A play, earning a bye to the quarterfinals where they will take on Israel (5-0). Israel held off a late surge by Ireland to advance into a Tuesday night playoff. Six members of the 2018 gold medal squad are back, including Trevor Baptiste, Jesse Bernhardt, Michael Ehrhardt, Jack Kelly, Rob Pannel and Tom Schreiber. For Bernhardt and Pannell, is it their third time wearing the red, white and blue at the worlds. They were on the silver medal squad in Denver in 2014.

Israel scored four goals in the first 4:54 of the third quarter to take a 5-1 lead, but after Jackson Appelt made it a 6-2 game midway through the fourth, Ireland scored three straight goals before Israel escaped with a 6-5 victory. Goalie Eric Schneider made nine saves for the Israelis.

The U.S. has won a record 10 gold medals at the world championships, with Canada defeating the Americans to win the other three golds since the event began in 1967. Australia has seven bronze medals, while Canada has four.
