Canada, the second-ranked nation in men's lacrosse, steamrolled its way to Thursday night's semifinal and will face Haudenosaunee at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego at the 2023 World Lacrosse Mens Championship. Canada has medaled in all 13 world championships, with three golds, six silvers and four bronzes. Haudenosaunee, representing the Iroquois Confederation, won bronze at the last two world championships in 2014 and 2018 and is looking for its first-ever appearance in the gold-medal game. Ranked third in the world, Haudenosaunee became just the fifth nation to win a medal with its breakthrough in 2014, joining the U.S., Canada, Australia and England.

Canada had no trouble getting past Jamaica in its quarterfinal on Wednesday, scoring four times in the first quarter and cruising to a 20-1 victory. Ryan Lee scored four goals while Dyson Williams, Jeff Teat and Curtis Dickson netted three apiece. The Canadians outshot the Jamaicans 36-10.
Haudenosaunee scored the first four goals of the game against Japan in its quarterfinal and went on to post a 10-5 victory. Austin Staats scored six goals, including three in a row in the first period, while David Jackson found the net twice. Sota Hazozaki and Hiroki Kanaya had two goals apiece for Japan in the loss.
In pool play, Canada escaped with an 8-7 win over Haudenosaunee on Sunday. Haudenosaunee led 2-1 and 3-2 and tied the game early in the third quarter at 4-4 before Canada ran off four straight goals to take the lead for good.
