The Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers, who played in last fall's World Series, meet for the 3rd time this spring when Arizona makes the trip Saturday to Surprise Stadium.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (7-13) last October became the second straight sixth seed to reach the World Series from the National League and on Saturday at Surprise Stadium will take on the defending champion Texas Rangers (10-8). It's the third meeting of the spring between the teams, with Texas taking both of the earlier meetings. Both teams were off on Friday, with the Diamondbacks getting rained out Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said this week that All-Star shortstop Geraldo Perdomo has held off top prospect Jordan Lawlar for the starting job to open the season. Lawlar was on the postseason roster after Perdomo cratered to a .214/.322/.297 slash line after the All-Star break.

Outfielder Wyatt Langford has been the breakout star of camp for the Rangers. The fourth overall pick in last summer's draft is slashing .361/.552/.806 in Arizona with five home runs and 14 RBI after roaring through four levels of the minors in just 44 games, hitting 10 homers and driving in 30 runs while slashing .360/.480/.677.

Second baseman Ketel Marte is hitting .455/.514/.636 in spring training while Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who was an All-Star after being acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in December 2022 and re-signed for four years and $51 million last winter, is slashing .379/.406/.724 with a homer and five RBI.

Left-hander Cody Bradford has a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in four appearances this spring for the Rangers and gets the ball to start the game on Saturday. Right-hander Ryne Nelson counters for Arizona. In four starts, he has a 3.09 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 11.2 innings with 14 strikeouts while keeping the ball down. His 2.8 groundball-flyball ratio compares to his 0.69 rate in 144 innings in 2023.
