On the mound in the first game for Pittsburgh is Mitch Keller (1-0) in his fourth start of spring training. So far in three starts he has one win, five strikeouts and a 6.75 ERA in eight innings pitched. He faces off with Detroit’s left-hander Tarik Skubal (0-0) who is winless in two starts.
Last season Skubal started 15 games, going 7-3 with 102 strikeouts and a 2.80 ERA in his best season in the majors. He looks to build on a quality start to spring training and last season where he played the best baseball of his career. Keller is also coming off his best season going 13-9 in 32 starts with a 4.21 ERA in 32 starts.
Pittsburgh goes from this game then moves on to play the Atlanta Braves in the second game of a spring training double-header. They look for a two-game sweep today with just one week left in spring training to avoid falling to the bottom of the standings.
