In the most recent game between the teams, Washington made it competitive in a 133-129 Boston win. Washington led after the first period and at the half, but after a 36-16 run by Boston in the third quarter sealed the game.
Tatum (35 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists) and Kristaps Porzingis (34 points and 11 rebounds) led five Boston players in double-figures in the win. Those two combined to shoot 22-23 from the free-throw line, wearing down Washington all game until they scored just enough to win on the road.
For Washington, it was able to make the game competitive in the end by going 20-47 from three. Six different players made at least three-plus shots from deep led by rookie Bilal Coulibaly who made a career-high four three-pointers to lead Washington to then season-high 20 made three-pointers.
