As a rookie, quarterback Mac Jones led the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance. He was unable to replicate that in his second season, with New England finishing under .500 at 8-9. That marked the second time in three seasons post-Tom Brady that the team finished under .500. Before that, the team's last finish of .500 or worse came in 2000 with Drew Bledsoe at quarterback.

Any team Bill Belichick coaches will likely be in the playoff hunt and this year should be no different, even if the team missed out on the postseason in 2022. The team added wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster this offseason to give Jones a potential No. 1 option. If 2022 second-round pick Tyquan Thornton can break out this year, this passing offense could be a lot better than people expect.

The best part of this offense is the running back position, though. Rhamondre Stevenson looked like a budding star last season, and the Patriots went out and signed veteran Ezekiel Elliott to back him up. With Elliott's ability in the short-yardage game mixed with the versatility of Stevenson, don't be shocked to see New England keep the ball on the ground.

The strength of this team, though, is the defense, where talented players like Matthew Judon, Kyle Duggar, Jonathan Jones and Adrian Phillips will be joined by second-round pick Keion White and third-round pick Marte Mapu to form a strong unit.
