Not even one of the most tumultuous seasons at the quarterback position in recent NFL history could stop Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers from winning the NFC West last season. The 49ers went 13-4 on the year, getting all the way to the NFC championship game before falling 31-7 to the Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers eventually wound up relying on rookie quarterback Brock Purdy to lead the way after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, and Purdy responded to the call well, appearing in nine games (five starts) and throwing for 1,374 yards and 13 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Purdy wasn't a star but in a game manager role, he did excel and will be expected to do the same in 2023.

And a game manager is all Purdy will be asked to be in 2023, as the team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Leading the way on offense is left tackle Trent Williams, a future Hall of Famer at the position. Tight end George Kittle is also one of the most explosive pass-catchers at his position in the league while wide receiver Deebo Samuel is the ultimate gadget player, impossible for opposing defensive coordinators to scheme against. And as if that wasn't enough for the Niners' offense, they also have running back Christian McCaffrey returning, one of the best runners in the game and arguably the best pass-catching running back in the game.

As if that wasn't enough, the 49ers also have one of the nastiest defenses in the league, headlined by edge rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner, two of the very best at their respective positions. Needless to say, the Niners are loaded with talent and should be considered one of the favorites next season in the NFC.
