Two world champion teams will go head-to-head, plus two American teams are hungry to make an international impact and hopefully medal.

Sui Wenjing and Han Cong of China are an amazing team. The Chinese skaters would love nothing more than to win Olympic gold in their home country. They would follow in the footsteps of Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, who in 2010 became the first Chinese team to win an Olympic pairs title. The team earned a silver medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Games.

Sui and Han took silver to rivals Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov at World Championships last year. They are representing the Russian Olympic Committee at these Olympics.

Mishina and Galliamov have been on a tear since their world title, winning both their Grand Prix assignments this season plus last month’s European Championships.

Team USA will have two pairs in the event. Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier represented the U.S. in the pairs short program and free skate for the team event at these Olympics, placing third in the former with a score of 75.00 and fifth in the latter with a 128.97.

Team USA’s other pair, Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy LeDuc, has been skating together since 2016. The duo is making its Olympic debut after coming in first at the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Regional restrictions may apply.
