Texas Aims to Stop TCU’s Undefeated Run

Plus, how will LSU respond after last week’s upset win?

We’re getting down to the wire in the college football season, meaning that already exciting matchups have major implications for conference title races and bowl matchups. Leading the pack this week is No. 4 TCU’s visit to No. 18 Texas. Plus, the SEC features No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Alabama and No. 1 Georgia all playing road games.

Here’s what I’m watching.

MUST WATCH:

College football: No. 4 TCU at No. 18 Texas

The Horned Frogs got some respect this week, jumping up to No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings after pushing their undefeated record to 9–0. Though TCU is just one of four remaining unbeaten programs left, the betting markets make them a touchdown underdog in Austin. Why would the 6–3 Longhorns be favored? Quarterback Quinn Ewers is back healthy, running back Bijan Robinson is virtually unstoppable and Texas’ defense is much improved from 2021.

• College football: No. 1 Georgia at Mississippi State | Georgia has won 12 of the last 13 matchups dating back to 1975. But the play of experienced QB Will Rogers could make this battle of the Bulldogs look different. 7 p.m. ET, ESPN, watch on fuboTV

• College football: No. 25 Washington at No. 6 Oregon | Both of these teams are just fine playing fast and running up the scoreboard. Oregon, in particular, is on an impressive run of racking up at least 41 points in eight straight games, all wins. 7 p.m. ET, Fox, watch on fuboTV

HIDDEN GEM:

College football: No. 15 North Carolina at Wake Forest

If you thought the Washington-Oregon game was going to be high-scoring, this ACC matchup will probably out pace it. These programs combined for a total of 113 points in UNC’s three-point win last season and 112 in the Tar Heels’ six-point win in 2020. With talented quarterbacks Sam Hartman for Wake and Drake Maye for Carolina, there should be little risk of this trend reversing.
