And Ernesto Valverde has his team in good shape to do just that after reforming Athletic into a top-four contender this season, having lost just two of their last 24 games and staging a return to the Copa del Rey final. However, it just so happens Las Palmas is in rare form of its own and sits eighth in the standings, and a home win this weekend would pull the club within 10 points of Athletic.

The Basque outfit has travelled to the Estadio de Gran Canaria on five occasions to date, drawing in three before losing the last two as its run of results in the overseas territory has worsened of late.
This will be the first time the two clubs have met in Las Palmas since September 2017, a season in which Athletic didn’t manage to score at home or away in this fixture.
Valverde’s side at least broke the habit by clinching a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture this term, but that stands to reason given Athletic has earned almost double its points tally at home (33) as it has on the road (17).
Las Palmas has struck slightly more of a balance between its success at home compared to playing away, though it’s no surprise it too has performed more reliably in front of its own supporters.
Garcia Pimienta’s side are without a win in three and drew 3-3 at Getafe last time out, while Athletic saw out a bore draw against Barcelona as the two teams ended scoreless at San Mames.
Valverde’s promising guests should be seen as favorites despite their record at Las Palmas over the years, though Athletic’s run of four away league games without a win is cause for concern.
