How to Watch Lille vs. Rennes: Stream Ligue 1 Live, TV Channel

Lille will look to lock down a place in Ligue 1's top four with victory over Rennes

Just six points separates fourth-place Lille from Rennes in eighth as Ligue 1 enters its business stages this season, with the latter intent on reviving its chances of bagging a qualifying place for Europe next season. Les Rouge et Noirs have succeeded in turning their fortunes around since Julien Stephan took control of the team in November, while Paulo Fonseca’s Lille has proved one of the most difficult outfits to defeat on their own soil so far this season. It just so happens Stephan’s main improvement has been transforming Rennes into a team that can win on the road, claiming 11 of its 14 away points this season across its current five-game undefeated streak (3W, 2D).

Stephan’s side drew 1-1 away to reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in its last road trip in Ligue 1, only for that work to seemingly go to waste after losing at home to Lorient the following week.

And Rennes will be desperate to make up for that miss visiting the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, a ground at which the club has failed to taste victory since January 2018.

Since then, Les Dogues have gone on a tear of two wins and three draws at home in this fixture, having gone undefeated in the last nine meetings between these teams overall (home and away).

That being said, this will be only Fonseca’s fourth time testing his credentials against Rennes, having won once and drawn on two occasions to date.

The former Porto and Roma chief was brought to Lille to restore the club as a title-contending power in Ligue 1, but the club has only come close to perfection playing at home under his tutelage.

Top scorer Jonathan David added two more goals to his credit on Thursday when Lille battered Austrian outfit Storm Graz 3-0 in the first leg of their last-16 showdown in the Europa Conference League.

Rennes top scorer Benjamin Bourigeaud most recently found the net twice himself in a 3-1 Coupe de France win over Le Puy Foot but hasn’t scored in Ligue 1 in a month.
