The two clubs met in the first leg of the draw last Tuesday at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium, with the match ending 2-0 in favor of the Costa Rican giant. Getsel Ramón Montes Escobar and Adrián Garza del Toro found the back of the net in the first leg at home to secure the lead heading into the second leg. Montes Escobar broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, while Garza del Toro doubled the lead in the 84th.

Herediano faced Liga MX's Toluca in the first leg of the first round on Feb. 7. The match at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium finished 2-1, with the Mexican club taking the lead back home for the second leg. Deyver Vega scored Herediano's lone goal in the 88th minute.
Then, at Nemesio Díez Stadium, Herediano took a thrilling 3-2 finish over the Liga MX side, thanks to goals from Andy Emanuel Rojas Maroto, Francsico Rodríguez and Joshua Canales.
