Sixth-ranked NC State (27-5) is back in the championship game after a year's absence, snapping the program's three-year run of winning the conference. The Wolfpack take on 14th-ranked Notre Dame (25-6) who have the brightest star in the country in freshman Hannah Hidalgo who has led the Fighting Irish to seven straight wins, including four in a row against ranked opponents.

This season Hidalgo has played as well or better than any freshman in the history of women’s college basketball. She is averaging 23.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.8 steals per game, which is tops in the country.
In the last game between the teams, the Wolfpack gave the Fighting Irish their last loss before this seven-game winning streak. They won 59-43 led by elite defense and a great start to the game. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first period and never looked back.
Madison Hayes led four players in double-figures with 16 points and five rebounds on 6-10 shooting. The Wolfpack defense made life miserable for Hidalgo, Sonia Citron and Maddy Westbeld, holding the trio to 37 total points on 16-52 shooting. For the season the trio has averaged 54.4 points per game as one of the best trios in the ACC.
