No. 4 seed Butler (18-14) takes on Minnesota (18-14) in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and the Bulldogs would love to get back to their home court next month. The NIT semifinals and championship game are scheduled at the historic field house on April 2 and 4. Butler is back in the postseason for the first time since an NIT bid in 2019 and this is its 10th appearance in the tournament overall, never advancing past the quarterfinals. The Golden Gophers are in their 16th NIT and are officially two-time champions, with wins in 1993 and 2014. Their championship in 1998 was later vacated by the NCAA.

The Bulldogs lost to Xavier in the second round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday for a one-and-done trip to New York. Pierre Brooks II scored 21 points while Posh Alexander and Jalen Thomas each had 14. Brooks gets 15.0 points per game, Jahmyl Telfort nets 13.6 points a night and Thomas averages 6.2 rebounds.
Minnesota has lost three games in a row, including a 77-67 loss to Michigan State on Thursday in the second round of the Big Ten tournament in Minneapolis. Dawson Garcia paced the squad with 19 points. Garcia averages 17.7 points and 6.6 rebounds, Cam Christie scores 11.3 points per game and Elijah Hawkins averages 7.5 assists.
The Golden Gophers are 3-1 against Butler all-time, losing the last meeting in Indianapolis 64-56 on Nov. 12, 2019. The winner advances to face the survivor of Wednesday's SMU at No. 1 seed Indiana State contest on either Saturday or Sunday.
