2022 was a season of mixed results for Clemson, as the Tigers did finish the campaign 11-3, a solid enough record, but they were ranked just 13th in the country following the season after getting blown out in the Orange Bowl 31-14 by SEC foe Tennessee. That led to head coach Dabo Swinney making changes this offseason, chief among them dismissing then-offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter and replacing him with former TCU play-caller Garrett Riley, who helped lead the Horned Frogs all the way to the national championship game in 2022. With loads of talent on both sides of the ball returning, it would be foolish to dismiss the Tigers' playoff chances in 2023, even after some upheaval over the offseason.

Who are the best Clemson Tigers football players for 2023?

By and large, the most important player for Clemson in 2023 will be sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik, a former five-star passer out of Texas who is set to be the Tigers starting quarterback this upcoming season. Klubnik got some experience in 2022, passing for 697 yards and two touchdowns (to three interceptions) while completing 61 of his 100 pass attempts. If Klubnik can live up to his potential, Clemson should be poised for a bounceback year on offense.

On defense, the Tigers will be led by junior linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, a projected first-round pick in 2024 who had 49 solo tackles, over six sacks, one forced fumble and two interceptions in 2022. Alongside Trotter, fellow third-year linebacker Barrett Carter returns after 41 solo tackles, over five sacks, two forced fumbles and two picks last season. The Tigers' defense will be back-ended by senior safety Andrew Mukuba, another projected first-round pick who had 53 tackles and one interception in 2022.
