The Los Angeles Dodgers (10-3) own the best record in the Cactus League this spring after committing more than $1 billion to free agents Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. On Thursday night, they face their old rivals, the San Francisco Giants (3-6) at Scottsdale Stadium. But they also traded for another front-of-the-rotation starter in acquiring right-hander Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays and brought back franchise icon Clayton Kershaw and veteran outfielder Jason Heyward. The biggest change for the Giants was in the dugout, as manager Bob Melvin joined Alvin Dark as the only manager to work in San Francisco and Oakland, leaving the San Diego Padres.

Yamamoto's second spring start was a rocky one, as he surrendered five runs in three innings, but the Dodgers came back to beat the Chicago White Sox 12-9 on Wednesday. Freddie Freeman had five RBI with a grand slam and a sacrifice fly, Ohtani was 2-for-2 with a run batted in and non-roster invitee Jose Ramos cracked a two-run single for some eighth-inning insurance.
San Francisco was off on Wednesday after beating the Milwaukee Brewers 13-8 the day prior. Wilmer Flores' two-run double keyed a six-run outburst in the fourth inning and Wade Meckler was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Logan Webb struggled, striking out six but surrendering five runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.
Kyle Harrison, a 22-year-old lefthander who made seven starts last season, gets the ball first for the Giants. He has allowed a run in 4.1 innings this spring with six strikeouts. Free-agent addition James Paxton gets his second call for Los Angeles. He allowed a run in two innings in his first start on Feb. 29.
