The New York Mets (8-5) have run off four consecutive spring training victories and are back at home on Sunday to host the Detroit Tigers (8-7) at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The Mets won just 75 games last season after opening the season with the largest payroll in MLB history and responded by replacing manager Buck Showalter and general manager Billy Eppler with Carlos Mendoza and team president David Stearns, respectively. Detroit is coming off a 78-win campaign, its best finish since 2016, but lost ace Eduardo Rodriguez to the Arizona Diamondbacks in free agency over the winter.
