The New York Yankees (8-11) lost their second straight game in Florida on Wednesday but suffered potentially devastating news to their quest to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2023. On Thursday, New York tries to regroup when it visits the Detroit Tigers (11-8) at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida. Yankee ace Gerrit Cole was shut down with discomfort in his right elbow and went to see specialist Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He is expected to open the season on the disabled list with no timetable for a potential return.
