Practice was held immediately before qualifying. Defending series champion Cole Custer comes off a second-place finish in Las Vegas last week, his best run of the season so far as he moved up from 12th to fifth in the season standings.

John Hunter Nemechek, now driving full-time on the NASCAR Cup Series, led 99 laps en route to taking the checkered flag in Las Vegas last week, with Custer the top-finishing Xfinity Series car in the field. Chandler Smith, who led for 74 laps, finished third while Hill and Riley Herbst rounded out the top five.
Hill, who won the first two races of the new season, leads Chandler Smith by 22 points in the standings, with Herbst 27 points back. A.J. Allmendinger trails by 43 points and Custer is 49 points in arrears. Hill remains the only provisional qualifier for the playoffs.
Sammy Smith led 92 of the 200 laps last year to beat Ryan Truex by 0.641 seconds. Kyle Busch has won the Phoenix spring race a record seven times, most recently in 2019, while Greg Biffle's victories in 2005 and 2009 make him the only other multiple-time winner of the event, which has been run since 2005.
