This is only the second time in conference history that two of the top three seeds are not playing in the championship. The first time was last season when the third-seeded Pirates defeated fourth-seeded Houston in the championship game.

During the regular season the Owls swept the season series, winning the first game 80-67 and the second game 75-57. In the first game the Owls were led by Dominique Ennis with 19 points and Shelby Hayes with 18 points to lead four players scoring in double-figures. They jumped out to an early nine point lead and never relented.

Then, in the second game the Owls built another early lead (30-19) at the half, led by 22 points of the bench from Malia Fisher. She led all scorers while shooting 8-for-10 from the field and stuffing the stat sheet with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. If the Owls play like they did in those first two games they will be crowned AAC Champions and earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
