Butler hasn't played in the NCAA tournament since 2018 while Xavier was a Sweet Sixteen team a season ago. The winner advances to take on No. 2 UConn, the Big East's No. 1 seed, in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday.

The Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a 72-66 win over the visiting Musketeers on March 6. Jahmyl Telfort scored 18 points and Posh Alexander had 16 as Butler held on down the stretch after leading by 13 at intermission. Pierre Brooks II gets 14.8 points per game, Telfort and DJ Davis each net 13.6 points a night and Jalen Thomas averages 6.1 rebounds.
Xavier lost a tight contest with then-No. 8 Marquette at home 86-80 on Saturday night in a game featuring 11 ties, 14 lead changes with neither team ever leading by double digits. Quincy Olivari poured in 32 points in the loss while Dayvion McKnight logged 16 points and eight assists. Olivari puts up 19.5 points per game, Desmond Claude books 16.0 points a night, McKnight averages 12.4 points and 5.0 dimes and Abou Ousmane snares 6.5 boards per outing.
The Musketeers are 47-27 all-time against Butler and the teams split two meetings this season. Xavier won 85-71 at home on Jan. 16.
