West Central (35-3) a co-op program with students from Winchester and Bluffs, will play in its first Illinois Class 1A championship game on Saturday morning when it tips off against Mounds Meridian (29-8) at State Farm Arena in Champaign. The Cougars have run off 14 straight wins en route to the title game. The boys program began its cooperative agreement in 2004-05 and reached the state final in 2011. Winchester also had a state tourney run in 1986. The Bobcats lost the championship game in 1972 and 2015 in its only state tournament appearances. West Central was ranked fourth in the final Illinois Associated Press poll. Top-ranked Effingham St. Anthony lost in its regional final, West Central took out No. 2 Glasford Illini Bluffs in the super-sectionals and No. 3 Pecatonica also lost at that level.

The Cougars trailed by eight with 3:59 remaining in their Thursday semifinal against Aurora Christian but rallied and came away with a 70-65 double-overtime victory. Chance Little finished with 33 points while Zack Evans added 17. Mason Berry finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Mounds Meridian got to the championship game with a 68-60 win on Thursday over seventh-ranked Chicago Hope Academy. Antonio Flenoid went for 24 points and 12 boards for the Bobcats while Jai'deon Reed scored 15 points. Meridian led by four at halftime before taking control of the game with a big third quarter.
Meridian comes into the title game on a 10-game winning streak, including knocking off Waltonville in the sectional semifinals.
