Heading into the tournament the Skyhawks are ranked 13th in the state and the Spoilers are eighth-ranked in North Dakota, two of the best teams in boys basketball in the state and in the top four in NDHSAA Division A on the final day of play.

In the semifinals the Skyhawks and Spoilers both played competitively with their opponents, losing by 10 and 11 points respectively, sending them to the third-place consolation game today.
The Spoilers lost 64-53 to the second-seeded Firebirds in their semifinal game. That came after winning three games in a row, including a win in the quarterfinals over sixth-seeded Beulah (84-66). Now they have one more game this season to finish as high as third in Division A and in the top 10 of the state overall.
For the Skyhawks, they fell 56-46 to the top-seeded Vikings in the semifinals after upsetting fourth-seeded Des Lacs-Burlington in the quarterfinals. That loss snapped a five-game winning streak and set the stage for this consolation game for third place this season.
