Graham Rahal is sitting on the pole for the 2023 Bitnile.com Grand Prix of Portland after a strong showing in qualifying. This is the fifth career pole for Rahal in his long, extended career in IndyCar racing. His first pole came back in 2009 where he had two pole positions that season, same for this year as Rahal has won multiple poles in a season for the first time in 14 years. Scott McLaughlin is right behind Rahal in second place after qualifying. McLaughlin won this race last season from the pole and looks to repeat history this year but from the second spot on the starting grid.

Colton Herta qualified third, Scott Dixon in fourth, Alex Palou in fifth and Pato O’Ward rounded out the Firestone Fast Six for today’s race.
Heading into this race, Palou (565 points) is the leader overall in the series, just 74 points ahead of his teammate on the Chip Ganassi Racing team. That teammate is Dixon (491 points) who will start this race just ahead of his teammate in the starting grid.
Rahal (251 points) is in 14th place with Herta (331 points) in 11th place heading into this race. A win for either driver would be huge to help close the gap in the standings and build more momentum this season in IndyCar.
