How to Watch Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Stream IndyCar Racing Live, TV Channel

Josef Newgarden ends a nearly 2-year pole drought and will lead the field into Sunday's IndyCar Series opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

Josef Newgarden set a goal for the 2024 NTT IndyCar Series season of winning a pole, something he hadn't done since June 2022. On Saturday, Newgarden — a two-time series champion — checked that off his to-do list in advance of Sunday's Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with a best lap of 59.5714 seconds, clipping Felix Rosenqvist for the first position on the starting grid by just 0.0058 seconds. Defending champion Álex Palou didn't get out of Round 1 in qualifying and will start Sunday's race in the 13th position. Marcus Ericsson, who won the season-opening race last year, begins the race in the sixth spot.

Rosenqvist set a new lap record on Saturday with a lap of 59.2706 seconds, a mark he couldn't duplicate in the final Fast 6 round of qualifying.
