It’s been exactly one month since Lens last snatched three points on the road, having since gone four games without a win and exiting the Europa League at the play-off stage.
Each of the club’s past two games have ended in 3-2 defeats (one in extra-time away to Freiburg), which just so happens to be the same scoreline by which Lens defeated Lyon when they met in December.
It’s fair to suggest Les Gones have rediscovered some bite since then, however, and the recent history between these teams puts the advantage in favor of the host.
That’s because neither Lyon nor Lens has managed to beat the other away from home in their last seven straight encounters, with the home team either winning or drawing in each of those.
After struggling to score earlier in the campaign, one trait Lyon has honed of late is its ability to produce goals from alternative sources, with six players responsible for the club’s last seven finishes overall.
Lens, meanwhile, has become more reliant on a smaller batch of players in recent matchups, with Wesley Said, Elye Wahi and Portuguese prospect David Costa shouldering most of that burden.
