North Texas (18-14) opens the 2024 NIT on the road when it visits No. 4 seed LSU (17-15) on Tuesday night at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Mean Green are the defending NIT champions and are looking to become the tournament's first repeat champions since South Carolina went back-to-back in 2005 and 2006. It is the third consecutive NIT appearance for North Texas, which beat Conference USA rival UAB in last year's championship game at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Tigers are back in the postseason after a one-year absence and are playing in the NIT for the first time since 2018. They have only advanced beyond the second round once, playing in the semifinals in 1970.
