On Friday night, ACC softball play will continue as Pitt travels south to take on No. 12 Virginia Tech in the first game of their three-game series in Blacksburg. The Panthers come into Friday's game with an overall record of 8-15 and a conference record of 0-3 after being swept by Georgia Tech in their ACC-opening series. Most recently, the team dropped a 3-1 game to FIU, bringing its losing streak to two games. The Panthers were only able to muster three hits against FIU and the only run came from the bat of Kylie Griggs in the fifth when she hit a solo shot to left field. Adriana Romano took the loss in the circle to move to 1-3 on the season after pitching 4.1 innings and striking out one batter.

The Hokies come into the weekend series with an overall record of 18-4-1 and a perfect conference record of 6-0 so far. On Wednesday, the team traveled to take on Charlotte in a non-conference game and suffered an 8-4 loss. Bre Peck started off the scoring in the game with a single to bring home Emma Ritter to make it a 1-0 game. Cameron Fagan extended the lead with a solo home run in the third, but the 49ers scored eight runs before the Hokies could bring another run home. Ritter added the final two runs with a two-run shot in the seventh, but it was too little, too late and the Hokies were forced to take the loss. Lyndsey Grein was credited with the loss to move to 5-2 on the season after pitching 0.1 innings and giving up four earned runs.
The last time Pitt and Virginia Tech met was during the 2022 season and the Hokies one both games, outscoring the Panthers 19-5.
