Before the race takes the track all of the drivers in the field will get started with some practice laps today before qualifying and then ultimately the race on Sunday. Last season Phoenix Raceway played host to the fourth race in the regular season, like this season, and the final race of the playoffs to crown a champion. In both races, William Byron was the standout winning the regular season race and starting on the pole for the championship race. Byron finished last season in fourth place at the end of the playoffs and could use this week as a launching point for a strong title defense.

So far this season there have been three different drivers taking the checkered flag. Byron kicked off the season with the first win, followed by Daniel Suarez and Kyle Larson both winning in the second and third race. Logano has been unstoppable in qualifying winning two poles, but coming up short in the end with finishes of 32nd, 28th and ninth in three races.
Larson is at the top of the points standings with 118 points, eight ahead of Ryan Blaney, 14 points ahead of Martin Truex Jr. and 15 points ahead of Byron as the only four drivers with 100-plus points through three races this season.
