The first meeting between the two headliners took place in August of 2020. Vera went into the bout coming off of a controversial split decision loss, while O'Malley was fresh off two viral knockouts. Vera ended up winning the matchup against O'Malley thanks to a TKO in the final minute of the opening round. The key moment that led to the TKO was when Vera landed a kick to the right leg, shutting down O'Malley's peroneal nerve, leaving him temporarily incapable of lifting his feet. Vera pounced and ended the fight with his elbows.
