The Federales need a victory over Dominican champion Tigres del Licey, the defending Caribbean Series champion, and an unlikely victory by winless Nicaragua over Venezuela to claim the No. 1 seed for Thursday's semifinals. The Tigres have clinched a spot in the semifinals but could finish anywhere from second to fourth in the preliminary round standings.

Panamá took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth on Tuesday night before Venezuela plated three runs and went on to a 5-4 victory. Chiriqui got off to a fast start with back-to-back home runs from Allen Córdoba and Ivan Herrera to take a 2-0 lead in the first. It was Herrera's second homer and eighth RBI of the series.
Raul Valdes struck out seven in five innings on Tuesday and combined with four relievers on a three-hit shutout in Licey's 2-0 win over Curaçao. Dawel Lugo drove in the first run of the game with a fourth-inning single while Robinson Canó's sacrifice fly in the eighth provided insurance.
Panamá and Venezuela enter the final day of round-robin play with matching 4-1 records. The Dominican Republic is 3-2, but with wins over Puerto Rico (3-2) and Curaçao (2-3) have clinched a spot. Puerto Rico played Curaçao on Wednesday morning in what was essentially an elimination game for the fourth semifinal spot.
