The first semifinal of the Big Sky Tournament between Northern Colorado (15-14) and Montana State (16-15) who finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference during the regular season. Both teams finished 10-8 in conference play, with the Bears closing the regular season with a loss and the Bobcats with a win heading into the tournament. During the regular season the teams split the two games they played setting the stage for this to not only be a chance to advance to the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament, but also the rubber match to break the season-series tie.

In the two games this season between the teams the Bears won the first game (58-53) and the Bobcats won the most recent game (61-40) to even up the season series between the teams.

The Bears were able to use an 18-6 second period to build a lead in the first game led by Delaynie Byrne with 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists. She whot 4-7 from three in the win and 8-12 overall from the field to help boost the Bears to a key regular season win against the Bobcats.

Then, in the second game the Bobcats ran the Bears out of the gym starting from the opening tip. They locked down the Bears allowing just 12 points in the first half, building a 30-12 lead that they never relented from all game. Madison Hall (19 points), Taylor Jannsen (17 points) and Marah Dykstra (13 points) combined for 49 points as a trio, outscoring the Bears on their own.
