The first semifinal on Tuesday of the women’s college basketball Mountain West Tournament features the only ranked team in the conference. UNLV (28-2) has won 13 straight games and enters the semifinals as the 21st ranked team in the country. The Rebels have only lost one game in conference, dominating the Mountain West. They will be challenged by Colorado State (20-10), who look to pull off the upset and move on to the championship game against the winner of the other semifinal between Boise State and San Diego State. The Rams have had an up-and-down run in the Mountain West this season, but finished fourth in the regular season and really tested the Rebels in their two regular season games.

During the regular season the Rebels won both games against the Rams, with both games decided by a combined eight points. The Rebels played only eight games decided by single digits in conference play, two of them against the Rams.

Five players finished in double figures in the first game for the Rebels led by Desi-Rae young with 16 points and eight rebounds and Amarachi Kimpson with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three off the bench. Alyssa Brown had a monster 14-point, 17 rebound double-double to help hold off a final period run by the Rams in an 83-78 win.

Then in the second game, the Rams nearly pulled off the upset in a 67-64 loss. They entered the final period up by two points behind Marta Leimane (22 points and 10 rebounds), Sanna Storm (17 points), McKenna Hofschild (13 points) and Sydney Mech (10 points), combining for 62 of the teams 64 points.
