Rutgers and Maryland will square off on Friday afternoon as the teams look to extend their seasons with a spot in the Big Ten championship game.

Big Ten Tournament play will continue on Friday afternoon as second-seeded Rutgers and third-seeded Maryland battle it out for the final spot in the tournament championship. The Terps finished off the regular season with a big 5-1 loss to conference champions, Northwestern, but bounced back to beat sixth-seeded Iowa 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Hope Rose scored the opening goal, her 13th of the season, in the 21st minute to give the Terps a 1-0 lead. Sammy Popper added an insurance goal in the 36th minute and Maryland was able to hold strong on defense to advance to the semifinal round with support from Alyssa Klebasko who recorded her fourth shutout of the year in net.

The Scarlet Knights ended the regular season on a two-game losing streak with an overtime loss to Northwestern followed by a big 7-2 loss to Iowa. The team was able to regroup, however, and played to a 1-0 victory over seventh-seeded Michigan in the opening round of tournament play. Paulina Niklaus netted the lone goal of the game as time was winding down to give the team enough to get past the Wolverines. Sophia Howard made three saves in net to help the team to its sixth shutout of the year. 

When Rutgers and Maryland played during the regular season, the game went into a shootout that went in Rutgers' favor with a 3-2 victory.
