BYU (20-2-3) earned its way to its second College Cup with a stunning come-from-behind win in its regional final on Nov. 24 and faces Stanford (19-0-4), a No. 2 seed which ended up hosting the regional when defending national champion UCLA was shocked in the first round. The game is set for Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The Cardinal needed overtime to advance to the College Cup for the first time since winning the national championship in 2019. Stanford was ranked No. 3 in the final regular-season poll while the Cougars were ranked sixth. The Cardinal have won five straight matches while BYU has won four straight since losing to Texas in the Big 12 tournament final.

The Cougars scored three goals in the final 9:38 of the match, including Olivia Katoa's game- winner at 88:20 for a stunning 4-3 comeback win over North Carolina on Nov. 24. The Tar Heels led 3-0 after less than 20 minutes before Bella Folino finally got BYU on the board at 60:52. Folino tied the game at 81:35 and Brecken Mozingo also scored. She leads the team with 14 goals while Katoa has 12.

Maya Doms scored on a one-timer 4:10 into overtime and Stanford hung on for a 2-1 regional-final victory over Nebraska on Nov. 24. The Cardinal's other tally was a Cornhuskers own goal at 10:29 before Nebraska got the tying goal into the correct net at 86:59. Jasmine Aikey has 11 goals for Stanford while Doms' game-winner was her 10th.

The teams have met nine times previously, with Stanford leading the series 5-3-1. Their last meeting was in the second round of last year's NCAA tournament when BYU advanced to the Sweet Sixteen on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.
