On Friday night, ninth-seeded Clemson and fifth-seeded West Virginia will battle it out for the first spot in the NCAA Championship game to be played on Monday night. The Tigers come into Friday night's semifinal matchup with an overall record of 13-3-5 and are on a five-game win streak with the most recent being a 2-0 win over Stanford on Saturday. Gael Gibert put the Tigers on the board first with a goal in the seventh minute after getting a head on a perfect cross from Joran Gerbet. The team struck again in the 37th minute. Arthur Duquenne got a shot off that was saved by Stanford's goalkeeper, but Tyler Trimnal finished the rebound to extend Clemson's lead and ultimately earn a spot in the College Cup.

The Mountaineers earned a spot in the College Cup with a 3-1 win over Loyola Marymount to bring their win streak to three games and their overall record to 17-2-4. The Lions scored just two minutes into the game to take an early lead, but West Virginia was not ready to back down. In the ninth minute, Luke McCormick scored his seventh goal of the season to tie things up. Sergio Ors Navarro put in the go-ahead goal during the 16th minute and the Mountaineers held the lead going into the locker room. Yutaro Tsukada added an insurance goal, his 12th of the year, in the 67th minute of play to propel the team to victory, earning a spot in the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history.
Clemson has a 2-0 record all-time against the Mountaineers, but the two teams have not met since 1974. This will be the first time Clemson and West Virginia have played each other in the postseason.
