College volleyball has a west coast showdown between UC Irvine and Stanford in action today.

The Stanford (7-4) men’s volleyball team looks to snap a four match losing streak today against one of the best teams in the country. Heading into today the Cardinal have lost four straight matches after starting the season on an impressive seven match winning streak. All four losses have come to top 17 ranked teams in the country, including their last loss to the same team they play today in seventh ranked UC Irvine (7-4). The Anteaters bounced back after a loss in their win over the Cardinal on Friday and look to build up a new winning streak here today. It is still early in the season, but momentum and wins at this stage play a huge role in the end.

In Friday’s match the Anteaters won 3-1 after a very tightly contested first set win. That set the tone (28-26) for the rest of the match where the Cardinals won the second set (25-22) before the Anteaters won the next two by the score of 25-19.

Getting off to a strong start will be important for the Cardinal in order to set the tone early today. Losing that first set to the Anteaters was draining both emotionally and physically in one of the most competitive sets of the season for either team.

After this match the Cardinal take a break from the elite teams in the country with matches against Pepperdine, Grand Canyon University and BYU over the next six matches. For the Anteaters, they face Concordia and UC San Diego before shifting focus to the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii with some of the best teams in the country.

Regional restrictions may apply.
