How to Watch São Paulo Grand Prix, Sprint Shootout: Stream Formula 1 Live, TV Channel

After qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix was cut short by rain on Friday, drivers return for a shortened qualifying session on Saturday to set the field for the Sprint.

Drivers set the starting grid for Sunday's São Paulo Grand Prix on Friday and will return to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace on Saturday morning for the sprint shootout, a shorter qualifying session to set the order for the final sprint of the 2023 season later in the day. The first sprint shootout qualifying session is just 12 minutes rather than the normal 18, with 15 cars advancing to SQ2, which is 10 minutes (down from 15). The fastest 10 cars go on to SQ3, an eight-minute session to set the order at the front of the starting grid (down from the conventional 12 minutes for grand prix qualifying).

Red Bull's Max Verstappen had the top time in the truncated third qualifying round on Friday at 1:10.727, 0.294 seconds faster than Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. Aston Martin's duo of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso were on the track early in the session and benefitted from that by qualifying third and fourth.

Saturday's sprint is the sixth and final such event of the season, with Verstappen winning the most recent short race at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, last month. Only the top eight finishers score points in the Sprint, with first place receiving eight points down to a single point for the eighth-place driver.

Autódromo José Carlos Pace was renamed in 1986 in honor of the Brazilian driver who died when the private plane he was on crashed near São Paulo in March 1977. Pace recorded his only career F1 win at the track, then named Autódromo de Interlagos, in 1975.
