Fernando Alonso had the fastest lap in practice on Thursday with defending world champion Max Verstappen 3rd ahead of qualifying Friday for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso, who will turn 43 in July, is the oldest driver on the grid in Formula 1 this season. But he's not slowing down, as the Aston Martin driver posted the fastest lap in Thursday's pair of practice sessions ahead of Saturday's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The second practice was held in conditions similar to what drivers will face in the race, cooler, drier and under the lights after FP1 was held during the day at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Alonso's best lap of 1:28.827 in FP2 was 0.230 seconds quicker than Mercedes' George Russell and 0.331 faster than three-time defending world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull.

Red Bull's Sergio Pérez was fifth in practice, 0.473 seconds slower than Alonso, as he looks to repeat his victory from a year ago. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was fourth, 0.353 seconds off the pace. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton is under investigation for potentially impeding Logan Sargeant of Williams and may face a grid penalty.

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit along the Red Sea waterfront is the third-longest on the F1 calendar, checking in at 3.836 miles with 27 turns, many of them quick bends on the temporary street course.

Verstappen comes off a win in the season-opening race in Bahrain last weekend, with Pérez finishing second. The Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Leclerc were next, finishing third and fourth, respectively, while Russell placed fifth.
