Narin An opened her back nine on Friday with five consecutive birdies before a bogey on the eighth hole cost her the solo lead entering Saturday's third round at the Blue Bay LPGA at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course on Hainan Island in China. Instead, Sarah Schmelzel, who birdied the 12th, 13th and 14th in succession, owns a share of the lead at nine-under-par entering the weekend. It's the first time the tournament has been played since 2018 after not being on the schedule in 2019 or 2022 and being canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, 2021 and 2023. Hye-Jin Choi is one shot off the pace at eight-under after a second-round 69.

First-round leader Minjee Lee fell two shots off the lead after a second-round 72 and is tied for fourth with Ruixin Liu. Gaby López, who won the 2018 tournament and is still the defending champion, is tied for 26th at one-under after an even-par 72 on Friday.
The winner will earn $330,000 of the $2.2 million purse and 500 points in the Race to the CME Globe standings. Stephanie Meadow, Lydia Ko, Bailey Tardy and Lucy Li are tied for sixth at six-under while Sei Young Kim, Ayaka Furue, Olivia Cowan and Caroline Inglis are all at five-under and tied for 10th place.
World No. 1 Lilia Vu withdrew from the event prior to the second round after opening with a 72. Last week in Singapore, she dropped out during the final round because of an illness. Friday's withdrawal was listed as an injury. That opens the door for Céline Boutier to take over the top ranking with a solo third-place finish or better. Boutier, however, is well off the pace, tied for 36th at even-par.
