Chicago DePaul College Prep (33-2) won the Illinois Class 2A title last year and will try to add a 3A trophy to the collection after moving up a class. On Friday, the Rams face Peoria Richwoods (29-4) in a state semifinal game at State Farm Arena in Champaign. Defense is the name of the game for DePaul, as it has held opponents to an average of just 23 points per game in five tournament games thus far, with Mundelein Carmel's 32 points in the regional finals the most the Rams — who have won 15 straight games — have surrendered in the tourney. The Knights are on a 16-game winning streak and are back at the state finals for the first time since 2010, when they lost in the championship game.

Richwoods knocked off top-seeded Harvey Thornton 58-52 in the Ottawa supersectional on Monday night. It was the Knights' fourth straight win over a top-10-ranked team. Lathan Sommerville carried the heavy load with 32 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in the victory. 

DePaul College Prep stifled Crystal Lake South 51-31 at the Hoffman Estates supersectional on Monday. Makai Kvamme banked in a 3 before the halftime buzzer to put the Rams up 10 at the break. PJ Chambers paced the offense with 18 points.

This is DePaul College Prep's fourth state finals trip since 2019 while Richwoods is at the event for the sixth time, with three previous losses in the championship game (1992, 2006 and 2010).
