Gunter (15-0) takes a 31-game winning streak into Thursday night's Texas 3A Division II championship game at AT&T Stadium. It is the third straight title game appearance for the Tigers, the defending state champions. Gunter has won three championships since 2016 and is in their sixth title tilt in that span. El Maton Tidehaven (14-0) is in its first championship game since sharing the 1980 3A title. It also won the 3A crown in 1967. Tidehaven, also nicknamed the Tigers, knocked off Daingerfield in overtime on Dec. 7 at Randall Reed Stadium in Daingerfield. Gunter cruised to its fifth semifinal win in eight years over Canadian on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium in Abilene.

Tidehaven tied the game with less than two minutes left when Kale Russell found Joseph Dobbs for a 23-yard touchdown pass and Dobbs scored on a three-yard run in the first overtime to lift the Tigers past Daingerfield. It was Tidehaven's second straight OT win in the playoffs, as it got past Poth in the quarterfinals.

After trailing 10-7 in the second quarter, Gunter stormed back to take a 21-10 halftime lead en route to a 38-17 victory over Canadian in its semifinal. Brock Boddie ran for 121 yards and a touchdown and Walker Overman threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores. 

For Gunter, Overman has thrown for 1,830 yards and 35 touchdowns with just two interceptions and also leads the team with 988 rushing yards and 21 scores. Jace Martin has caught 12 touchdown passes and Cannon Lemberg hauled in 10.
