For the women’s qualifying today there are 13 racers that have qualified based on those standards. The top three performers today will make the team. For the men, Conner Mantz and Clayton Young are the only men to qualify and will look to punch their tickets today.
Historically the marathon event at the Olympics has seen as many as 150-plus runners competing from all across the world. In 2020 that field was cut down to 106 for the men and 88 for the women. This year the event is expected to allow 80 men and 80 women in the event as it settles into a smaller, less crowded field going forward.
The men are looking to medal at the Olympics for the first time since the 2004 Athens Olympics (Silver) while the women are in a position to be on the podium in back-to-back Olympic Games after Molly Seidel took home a Bronze Medal in 2020.
